Once upon a time, there was a kingdom called Judea. The people living there were called Jews.
They were conquered. By Romans.
Romans tended to do that.
The Romans were better organized, and had better equipment, and so they took over.
The Jews didn’t like that.
They muttered angrily about “oppressive colonial imperialism” and vowed to “break free”, which for some reason meant instoring an incredibly repressive patriarchal regirme (because really, what is freedom if it isn’t stoning adulterers and homosexuals?).
They rebelled.
The Romans really didn’t like that.
They crushed the rebellion.
They started an empire wide policy of anti-semitism which the Roman Catholic church and it’s offspring merrily continued for another 2 millenia.
They barred the Jews from returning to their homeland.
Indeed, the Romans declared, even the name of the land would be changed.
Henceforth, it would no longer be known as Judea, but Syria Palestine.
I had an idea for a song come to me while I was living in Lyon.
It’s a pretty simple song, lyrically.
“We become the evil we set out to destroy”.
